The back yard used to be a small vegetable garden where they grew their own food when y dad was a kid. It was later turned into a barnyard to hold the animals, and finally was paved over by Kostas (and will soon be finished) as a play area for the girls. The hole in the wall is where the stone bread oven used to be that my dad remembers from his childhood! It is private and very sunny and such a nice area to have at your home when you have three very, very energetic young ladies running around.
The playground is just outside the house. This is just one of many playgrounds, churches, or other facilities that families in Velvento build if they come into money or move to America. It is a great way of giving back to a community that is so deeply devoted to service to others and family.
